Prof. Dr. Mashhood-uz-Zafar Farooq Appointment as Principal KIMS
Prof. Dr. Mashhood-uz-Zafar Farooq is a distinguished ophthalmologist, educator, and administrator with over 35 years of experience in medical education, clinical practice, and hospital management. Currently serving as the Principal of Karachi Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and also the Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology since 2020. His past administrative roles include serving as Medical Superintendent at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Spencer Eye Hospital, City District Government Karachi and as Deputy Registrar Academics at Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi.
Dr. Farooq is a passionate academician, focusing on student centered teaching methodologies. He has authored ophthalmology books and has been a reviewer for multiple international medical journals. His research focuses on diabetic retinopathy, cataract surgery, and advancements in medical education.
As a leader in institutional development, he has played a key role in establishing digital libraries, electrophysiology labs, PICUs, ICUs, and corneal graft services at various hospitals. He has also contributed to hospital disaster management policies, medical record integration, and capacity-building programs for healthcare professionals.

He has also contributed significantly to community outreach, organizing free eye camps and served as Clinical Director for the Special Olympics Pakistan – Opening Eyes Program.
His dedication to advancing medical education, patient care, and institutional growth continues to make a lasting impact in the healthcare sector.
